Dr. Keith L. Somerville
Lead Pastor
Thank you so much for visiting The Village!
As you get to know all about us, I wanted to take some time to tell you just a little about myself. Most people call me Pastor Keith. In 2016, I was ordained as an Elder in full connection through the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. That means that along with my calling to pastor, I am formally educated, experienced, and connected to thousands of men and women worldwide who are accountable to one another for the care of God’s people.
I am a graduate of Morehouse College, the Interdenominational Theological Center (Gammon Seminary) with a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Care and Counseling, and Emory University with a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Biblical Interpretation and Proclamation. I have also earned a Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education and served as a Chaplain of Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital (Houston Medical Center).
Before being called to the Village, I served full-time as the Senior Pastor of Riverside-Houston UMC, Calvary-Houston UMC, and One Life UMC.
In addition to preaching, teaching, and pastoral care, I have served on several Conference Boards, a member of the Institutional Review Board for the University Of Houston School of Research, as the President of the Black Methodist For Church Renewal (Houston Caucus), Co-Founder of One Voice Inc., Preaching Mentor (Texas Annual Conference) a published author, and Board Chair Emeritus of the Wesley Foundation at Texas Southern University.
Additional board involvement that broadens our community connections and strengthens our reach to families include:
City of DeSoto Mayor’s Faith Leaders Coalition
District Committee On Ministry
The DeSoto Police and Clergy Council
First Choice Social Services
The DeSoto Chamber of Commerce
African American Clergy Association
City Organization Active in Disaster (COAD)
I look forward to meeting you, and I hope you prayerfully consider becoming a part of the Village!
